December 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The trial of economist Pavie\u0142 Danejka, of the BEROC think tank, is scheduled to open at the Minsk City Court on December 23 without the defendant being present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danejka is accused of extremism, conspiracy and unauthorized business activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Valancina Ziankievi\u010d will preside over the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, she sentenced Franak Via\u010dorka, an aide to opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, to 20 years in prison without the defendant being present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ziankievi\u010d also sentenced journalists of Tut.by, formerly the country\u2019s largest privately-owned media organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danejka is a former MP (1995-1996), the former general director of the IPM Business School closed down by the Minsk City Executive Committee in July 2021, a former director on the Bie\u0142hazprambank and Homsialma\u0161 boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, he was reportedly summoned to the Investigative Committee for questioning over of his membership in the opposition Coordination Council. The case against him was opened in October 2024 and stems from his membership in the Coordination Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
