December 17, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Ten people injured in a recent fire at a shopping mall in Viciebsk remain in the hospital, said Alaksandar Subocin, chairman of the regional executive committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One women is in a serious condition, he said. “She is receiving everything she needs.” Six patients may be discharged before the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the interior ministry reported arrests of suspects allegedly responsible for fire safety breaches at the Viciebsk shopping mall “Belarus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday\u2019s fire covered 2,000 sq. m at the mall. It took 90 rescuers more than four hours and 21 pieces of hardware to handle the emergency. More than 200 people were evacuated from the building. Sixteen were injured and four more applied for psychological help, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State media quoted D\u017amitryj Krutoj, the head of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, alleging that mismanagement by the mall owners could have caused the blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted problems with the power system, unauthorized redevelopment and financial violations. Problems with refrigeration equipment caused a fire there in 2020, but adequate measures to fix the fire extinguishing system have not been taken, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
