The Polish government approved laws yesterday to secure the border and prevent Minsk from using illegal migration against Poland, its press office reported, noting that the legislation will enter into force after official publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation empowers the government to restrict asylum right as proposed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish government would be able to restrict asylum rights when illegal migrants are used for hybrid warfare against Poland and if their asylum requests threaten Poland&#8217;s national security and there are no other means to prevent these threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Restrictions on asylum can be introduced for up to 60 days at specific border sections and extended for another 60 days by the legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation would not apply to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and unaccompanied minors. Polish authorities will also be able to revoke refugee status from people seen as threats to national security and those sentenced for committing serious crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bills are a part of Tusk\u2019s new migration strategy to tackle the illegal migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border that Warsaw considers a hybrid attack organized by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fears persisted that the move might affect Belarusian asylum seekers fleeing Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime even though Polish officials have assured Belarusians that the amendments would not affect people staying or planning to stay in the country legally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/117804\/\">EU backs potential restriction of asylum right, funds protection of shared border with Belarus<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 19, Pozirk.
