Poland accounted for most of them &#8211; 507, while illegal crossings via Latvia and Lithuania fell to 43 and 18, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2024, the EU stopped at least 36,103 illegal border crossings at its shared border with Belarus, including 29,811 attempts via Poland; 5,317via Latvia; 975 via Lithuania. Illegal migration fell about 13.6 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.
