December 21, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied forwarded to the Supreme Court case files against Siamion Sierafimovi\u010d, who died 27 years ago and is accused of involvement in genocide during WW2, his press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities charged the dead man with the murder of at least 4,144 people, including 622 children. Sierafimovi\u010d, who headed an auxiliary police unit during the war, reportedly ordered to torture people, shoot, hang and burn them alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case is another one in a series of trials targeting dead perpetrators of war crimes against Belarusians, following the conviction of Vladimir Katriuk in mid-March and proceedings against Konstantin Smowski that opened in November. Both were accused of involvement in Chaty\u0144 massacre in 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government started promoting the concept of genocide against Belarusians about three years ago, while \u0160vied personally contributed content for a textbook on genocide for five-graders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed a law providing for criminal prosecution of the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
