December 22, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>More than 240,000 Belarusians have applied for Polish residence permits over the past three years, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka told Pozirk<\/em>, citing the Polish interior ministry’s data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, Polish authorities have approved more than 140,000 applications, of which some 86,000 are temporary residence permits, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA significant part of Belarusians, who are currently staying in Poland, were forced to leave Belarus either because of politically-motivated persecution or because of the atmosphere of fear and terror created by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime. [They] are legitimate victims of the crime of deportation,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2020, the number of Belarusians who moved to Poland has grown significantly, which indicates the artificial nature of this migration, the politician said. People leave Belarus not of their own free but fearing the ongoing politically-motivated crackdown in the country, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, Belarusians have become the second-largest national minority in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
