December 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian community center Kropka in Tbilisi will shut down on January 10 after three years of operation, its team has told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reasons include the falling numbers of Belarusians in Georgia, with a decrease from 15,000 to 12,000 over the past two years, as well as restrictive Georgian laws, including a law discriminating against LGBTQ+ people and a foreign influence law. The latter was inspired by a similar Russian law that the Kremlin uses to persecute opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the three years of its existence, Kropka hosted about 800 events with some 8,500 participants. Belarusian community members initiated the majority of the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian exiles have been facing more difficulties in Georgia recently. Earlier this year, Georgian authorities rejected asylum applications filed by several Belarusians, while activists and journalists are often banned from re-entering the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
