December 23, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Trade between Belarus and Moscow exceeded $6 billion, reported last year, in the first 10 months of 2024, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has told Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin at their meeting in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year, we aimed for trade of up to $7 billion,\u201d the Belarusian ruler’s press office quoted him as saying. “Frankly speaking, it’s hard for me to believe that we can reach this level, but it’s a very respectable [target].”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI support you very much that you have brushed aside these Western sanctions and started to produce your cars, which we used to know well, but this time at a more advanced level. I think there is a place for Belarus in these projects, especially in terms of automotive parts and other items,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler also noted a \u201ctremendous demand” for Belarusian goods in Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trade between Belarus and Moscow surged by 30 percent over the past two years, while trade in construction goods soared by 60 percent, Sobyanin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourist flows increased by almost 50 percent this year after a lull linked to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and the start of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine in 2022, the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western countries started introducing sanctions against Belarus in 2020, two years before Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine, punishing the government for a rigged presidential election and human rights abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, sanctions against Minsk have been reportedly weaker than those against Moscow, allowing Belarus to become a way station for sanctioned goods to reach Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
