December 23, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarus-UNESCO cooperation “helps us to dispel stereotypes about our republic, not only to multiply world heritage,” said Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He spoke in the National Art Museum at an event celebrating the inclusion of vycinanka, the Belarusian art of papercutting, in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Beauty will eventually save the world. But we all have one task: to convey to those who are responsible for saving the world that this must be done through beauty, not through the buildup of military threats, the development of military-industrial complexes and the escalation of tensions around the world,” the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Belarus has cooperated with UNESCO for 70 years. The country has a good track record of constructive, mutually beneficial work, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We help them to preserve and multiply world heritage, and through the prism of these projects that we are celebrating today, they help the international community to see Belarus from a different side,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNESCO added vycinanka to the list of intangible cultural heritage at a session in Paraguay on December 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Belarus brands itself as a peace-loving nation, it supports Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine and served as a launchpad for its 2022 offensive on Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
