According to the Belarusian ministry, the coupon rate, the timeline and the maturity date correspond to those of the Belarus-2027 Eurobonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payments will be made in Belarusian rubels at the National Bank&#8217;s exchange rate set three working days prior to the maturity date or the coupon payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move may have something to do with the Belarusian government\u2019s failure to pay interest in US dollars due to sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late June 2022, the Council of Ministers and the National Bank declared their intention to service Belarus\u2019 foreign debt in Belarusian rubels. Belarus has been depositing rubel interest payments at Belarusbank for a year after Citigroup and Citibank stopped servicing payments on its Eurobonds amid Western sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rating agencies Fitch and Moody\u2019s downgraded Belarus\u2019 credit rating: the former said its default was inevitable, and the latter described the rubel payment as a default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian Ministry of Finance criticized those decisions and keeps paying Eurobond interest in rubels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September 2023, the Moscow City Court rejected a lawsuit by a private investor demanding Eurobond debt recovery from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexander Marchenkov filed the lawsuit against the Belarusian finance ministry demanding $310,000 in early payments on Eurobonds based on international agencies\u2019 reports of the Belarusian government defaulting on debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/4455\/\">Moscow court throws out Eurobond holder\u2019s suit against rubel payments<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 24, Pozirk.
