December 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Minsk’s Tsentralny District Court has sentenced a man to 18 months of restricted freedom, a type of home confinement, for repeatedly violating the procedure on holding mass events, the city’s Prosecutors Office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 7, the 48-year-old man picketed the Supreme Court after his parental rights were terminated and his son was placed for adoption. The man “was expressing his personal interests and protest with a sign,” the prosecutors said. “He did not obtain a permit from the Minsk City Executive Committee in the prescribed manner.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He committed the “given act” a year after being fined under Article 24.23 of the Administrative Offenses Code for violating the procedure on holding mass events, the office noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man pleaded guilty at the trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Supreme Court, 2,776 people had their parental rights terminated in 2023. More than 61 percent were men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, the measure was imposed on 2,705 people. The number of people deprived of their parental rights rose by 2.6 percent over a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the number of children whose parents were stripped of these rights was 3,427 (221 one year old or younger; 281 between two and three years old; 610 between four and six years old; 977 between seven and ten years old; 796 between 11 and 14 years old; 542 between 15 and 17 years old).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
