December 30, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Minsk City Court has sentenced two men to 24 and 23 years in prison in connection with an arson attack on an elite police unit in Minsk in September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defendants were found guilty of planning a terrorist attack and other serious crimes at a trial that concluded on December 23 without the defendants being present, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resistance group Bus\u0142y Lacia\u0107 (Storks Are Flying) claimed responsibility for the attack. The prosecutor said that it was carried out by Vital Paciechin, a former military serviceman, and plotted by ex-police officer Pavie\u0142 Ku\u0142a\u017eenka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Using a drone, the accused dropped two five-liter bottles of Molotov cocktails on the OMON [riot police] base,” investigators said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After committing the terrorist attack,” Paciechin allegedly “hid the drone in a cache to hand it over to another member of the criminal organization and left the territory of Belarus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
