December 30, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Minsk starts designing a new metro line, the chairman of the city’s executive committee told Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka at the opening of three new stations of the third underground line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzimir Kuchara\u016d said the city government plans to build a 25-kilometer belt line with 17 stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We plan that, taking into account the construction of the large Pa\u016dno\u010dny Bierah microdistrict and the microdistricts where over 800,000 people live (Frunzienski and Masko\u016dski), after the completion of the Park Dru\u017eby Naroda\u016d station we will start from this side,” Kuchara\u016d said, according to \u0141uka\u0161enka’s press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first four stations of the third line \u2013 Jubilejnaja P\u0142o\u0161\u010da, P\u0142o\u0161\u010da Franci\u0161ka Bahu\u0161evi\u010da, Vakzalnaja and Kavalskaja S\u0142abada \u2013 opened on November 7, 2020. Three more stations \u2013 Aeradromnaja, Niemar\u0161anski Sad and S\u0142ucki Ha\u015bciniec \u2013 opened at 4 p.m. on December 30. In 2029, in addition to Park Dru\u017eby Naroda\u016d, officials plan to open the Prafsajuznaja, Piarespa and Kamaro\u016dskaja stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka noted a good but slow progress of the construction. “It should be two times faster. No need to build underground palaces. It would be better to make more decent, simple stations instead. Let’s plan together the development of this expensive but very necessary transport for our Minskers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuchara\u016d replied that there are plans to buy a second tunnel boring machine Alesia to speed up the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Executive Council chairman said subway accounts for about 40 percent of the capital’s passenger traffic. In 2024, the number of transported passengers rose by 8 percent; revenues, by 12 percent; and the metro’s profit, by 10 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metro relies on subsidies, so passengers pay only 90 kapiejkas per entry while it actually costs 2 rubels and 12 kapiejkas, Kuchara\u016d said. “The subsidy is from the city budget, about 134 million rubels annually,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Almost half is subsidized. This is not very good,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
