January 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The German government has notified Belarus of the suspension from January 1 of the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation in relation to income and property taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The German finance ministry pointed out that Minsk had suspended certain provisos of this agreement on June 1, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Republic of Belarus has not complied with a request from the Federal Government to reverse this partial suspension of the agreement,” it said. “The Federal Government sees this as a material breach of the agreement within the meaning of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. Should the Republic of Belarus reverse the partial suspension, the Federal Government will examine whether the occurred suspension of the agreement can be lifted.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deal was signed on September 30, 2005, and came into force on December 31, 2006. The parties affirmed their willingness to foster their economic relations by eliminating tax barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, in Germany the agreement applied to income tax (Einkommensteuer), corporate tax (Korperschaftsteuer), capital tax (Vermogensteuer) and industrial tax (Gewerbesteuer), and in Belarus to income and profit tax, personal income tax, real estate tax and land tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 7, 2024, the Belarusian Council of Ministers suspended until the end of 2026 double tax provisions with 27 Western countries, including Germany, concerning dividends, interest and income from the alienation of property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
