January 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The removal of restrictions on retirement-age workers\u2019 pensions on January 1 will benefit about 110,000 employed seniors out of 446,000 whose pensions were subject to caps, Alena Hamorava of the social security ministry has told journalists.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their pensions will be recalculated automatically starting this month, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, full pensions were paid to those whose monthly salary did not exceed the average monthly wage multiplied by a factor of 1.3. Those whose salaries were higher were paid part of the full pension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities expect that the move will attract some 10,000 recent retirees to the labor market as Belarus faces a shortage of skilled workers amid migration caused by politically-motivated reprisals that have been going on for four years. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social security ministry plans to increase pensions for 2.4 million retirees by 14 percent this year to 926 rubels ($265).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
