January 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> “There is no need to set up barricades now. This is not the moment. Times are tough. But believe me, a moment will come when everyone will revive the sentiments of 2020,” \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja told journalists in Warsaw yesterday, after an award ceremony for contributions to Belarusian liberty, culture and science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I advise Belarusians inside Belarus to take care of their safety,” the opposition leader said. “We understand that time will come when we’ll need all of you. [It is important] for people to not lose faith. To save the 2020 feeling, the one of unity, until the right moment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She acknowledged that it is difficult for Belarusians to get involved in politics while going about their lives. Nevertheless, it is crucial to keep the feeling of solidarity until a better day, “when we will see the strongest Year 2020 again,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja pointed out that her office, formed to support the Belarusians as an independent nation, has limited resources to help people inside the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“But we are trying to help the families of political prisoners, primarily the vulnerable groups. Trying to help through some education programs. . . . Our goal is to keep our state on the agenda, to separate the regime from Belarusians and to raise awareness of two Belaruses,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
