January 10, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>New incidents of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on January 9 included several trials for sharing opposition content: \u015aviat\u0142ana Sa\u0161enka was tried in Re\u010dyca, Homiel region, Ta\u0107ciana Dabrynina, in Miory, Viciebsk region, and \u0141arysa Kandraciuk in Hrodna, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court sentenced Baptist preacher Mika\u0142aj Chi\u0142a, an employee of the EU Delegation in Belarus, to four years in prison in late December, Politico<\/em> reported. Authorities persecuted Chi\u0142a on charges of insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and inciting hatred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siarhiej A\u0142dasie\u016d and Hienda\u017a \u017dukiel are tried in Lida, Hrodna region, for allegedly insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka, the Viasna Human Rights Center and the Sudy, Zaderzhnaiya. Grodno i Oblast<\/em> Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzimir \u0160pak, who administered the Propovednik<\/em> Telegram chat, has been on trial in Minsk since December 30, Viasna reported. Authorities persecute him on protest- and extremism-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Propaganda worker Juryj Vaskrasienki released the surnames of five female political prisoners who were pardoned in late December: Anita Bakunovi\u010d, Volha or \u017dana Vo\u0142kava, Natalla Kruk, Irena Kliviec and Ina Palcava, Pozirk<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of January 10, human rights defenders identified at least 1,258 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
