January 10, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Poland’s Sejm yesterday sent for revision a bill that would, among other things, allow authorities to suspend foreigners’ right to asylum, Gazeta Wyborcza<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parliamentary commission for administration and internal affairs will work to improve the bill drafted by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the newspaper, 403 out of 460 MPs, including members of the ruling coalition, voted against the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MP Katarzyna Uebergan said the Left will not agree to the suspension of human rights. The Left faction will not support the bill because it cannot be improved, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2024, the Polish government drafted bills to beef up security at the border with Belarus and counter the instrumentalization of illegal migration by Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish cabinet suggested that authorities should have powers to temporarily limit the right of foreigners to apply for asylum. The measure was proposed earlier by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
