January 11, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>At least four third-country foreigners tried to cross into Lithuania via Belarus two days ago after three weeks without documented illegal crossings, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of the Lithuania border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia has not been reporting illegal crossings since December 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the European Union thwarted at least 83 illegal border crossings at its shared border with Belarus, with 79 attempts via Poland and four via Lithuania. Attempts doubled compared to a similar period last January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the EU thwarted at least 36,291 illegal border crossings at its shared border with Belarus after foiling 42,078 attempts in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border has been ongoing since spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
