January 13, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>European partners of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry sometimes ask not to disclose trade data, citing Western sanctions against Minsk, the chamber\u2019s head Michai\u0142 Miatlika\u016d said in an interview broadcast by STV<\/em> yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among recent events involving the chamber, he mentioned Belarusian executives\u2019 participation in a business council meeting in Austria and a visit by a Serbian business delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe hold events with other partners as well: businesses get together and we help them maintain relations as there are a lot of commodity items that are not under sanctions,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Statistics Committee (Bie\u0142stat) has withheld data on exports by country since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most recent package of the European Union’s sanctions adopted about a month ago affected 26 individuals and two companies in Belarus. A total of 287 individuals and 40 companies from Belarus are currently under sanctions along with a ban on exports and imports of various goods and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU also prohibited the transit of dual-use goods via Belarus to prevent sanctions evasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the EU border, as well as support of Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
