January 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, in his election manifesto, has pledged to improve ties with the West and neighbors during his next term in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is not to blame for the breakup and did not initiate it, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he will continue to strengthen strategic partnership with Russia and countries of the Global South, including China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The manifesto contains the promise to “keep the social policy principles unchanged.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also promises to supplement the minimum social standards with additional amenities, such as affordable transport services, well-maintained streets and recreation areas, high-speed internet, clean water, electricity and gas supply, and cultural, sports, trade and restaurant facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State-owned newspapers run the manifesto headlined “Time Has Chosen Us” today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the document, \u0141uka\u0161enka, who has been in power since 1994, talks of his achievements in the last 30 years, urging voters to unite and defend the country from external and internal threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have no territorial claims against any country,” the manifesto reads. “We are not threatening anyone, and we do not plan to attack anyone. Our military policy is defensive. But we must be ready to defend our homeland in case of aggression and invasion of Belarus. Therefore, we will continue to form modern Armed Forces, develop our own production of advanced weapons and cooperate with Russia within the framework of existing international treaties to ensure reliable security guarantees.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
