January 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Russia is committed to ensure the security of its ally Belarus within the framework of the Union State and “other decisions taken,” TASS <\/em>quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peskov was asked to comment on remarks by Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d, state secretary of the Belarusian Security Council, who had accused the West and “Belarusian radicals” of plotting to seize part of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked if Russia would not leave Belarus in trouble, Peskov said: “Absolutely right.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valfovi\u010d made the accusations in an interview published by SB. Belarus Segodnya <\/em>today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He repeated the claim that external forces consider involving “extremist groups in an armed operation to seize one or several border regions of Belarus, declare them ‘free’ and deploy a Western ‘peacekeeping’ contingent there.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He referred to a command and coordination center called Paspalitaje Ru\u0161e\u0144nie allegedly created in Poland to train militants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, Ukrainian and Western intelligence agencies are also involved in the training of “Belarusian radicals.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine use these units in combat operations against Russian troops, so that Belarusian extremists gain combat experience,” Valfovi\u010d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state-run newspaper published his allegation a week before the January 21-26 presidential poll widely seen as a stage-managed ritual to extend Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka rule by another five-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian strongman made similar claims, unsupported by evidence, on the polling say in the February 2024 parliamentary and local elections. He claimed that opponents were plotting to capture the towns of Kobryn and Ma\u0142aryta in the Brest region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
