January 17, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed Washington’s decision to remove Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry stated that Belarus had consistently and strongly condemned the unfair and unjustified inclusion of the island country in the US list, including at the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From the very beginning, the absurdity of this step was obvious to the whole world. We expect that the recent decision by the White House will be final and irrevocable and that sensible people in the new US administration will realize the futility of such sanctions,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foreign ministry also called for an end to the US embargo against Cuba and the lifting of all unilateral restrictive measures against other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry has not mentioned that the Joe Biden administration has removed Cuba from the list in exchange for Havana’s promise to release 553 political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuba reportedly freed 127 people under the deal negotiated through the Catholic church as of this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Korea, Iran and Syria remain on the US list of state sponsors of terrorism. Some observers say that the incoming US president, Donald Trump, may reverse President Biden’s decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
