January 18, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian people can articulate their aspirations and pursue their contentment “with no regard to US regime’s wants and whims,” the embassy in Washington said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, the Belarusian diplomats reacted<\/a> to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller’s criticism of the upcoming presidential election in their country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A long campaign of repression has made free and fair elections impossible in Belarus, and the 2025 presidential election cannot reflect the will of the Belarusian people,” Miller said<\/a> on X. “The US condemns the sham election and the regime’s deliberate and continued suppression of freedoms.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian embassy left its reaction in the comments section under his post, saying that Miller is “no judge or jury for Belarus” and his criticism is “irresponsible and irrelevant.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the Belarusian diplomatic mission reacted to Miller’s post instead of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming presidential election cannot be free or fair given the country’s repressive environment, Blinken said<\/a> yesterday. The systematic work of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime to suppress any dissent determined the result long before voters cast their ballots, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers scheduled the seventh presidential election for next week. The Belarusian pro-democracy forces have dismissed it as a sham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
