January 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Western sanctions on Minsk have negatively affected economic ties between China and Belarus “to a certain extent,” Chinese Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan told the Belarusian national STV <\/em>channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, these restrictions “cannot stop the rising tide of the Chinese-Belarusian relationship,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the cooperation is steadily expanding in various areas, and its mechanisms are constantly improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat cited unattributed statistics, according to which Belarus opened Chinese language courses in more than 160 schools and over 10 universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are seven Confucius Institutes and two Confucius classes in Belarus now, which play an important role in achieving high-class Chinese language teaching and bringing the people of the two countries closer together. In the future, highly professional specialists who speak Chinese and understand China’s national characteristics will be increasingly in demand,” he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of the Great Stone Industrial Park, the ambassador said that the affiliated Chinese companies “are mainly engaged in technological research and development, engineering, logistics and warehousing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that these projects give an impetus to trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, fill the gaps in the Belarusian industry and stimulate the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economic ties between Minsk and the West have weakened because of the sanctions imposed on Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime for its involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restrictions have significantly reduced Belarus’ potential as a transit country through which goods from China and others reach Western Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a government conference on December 23, the Belarusian ruler announced that he would soon travel to China. His office has not elaborated on these plans so far. \u0141uka\u0161enka last visited China on December 3\u20134, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
