January 20, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Companies operating under the authority of Belarus\u2019 State Defense Industry Committee manufactured $147 million worth of components for modern weapons production in 2024, its head D\u017amitryj Pantus told Belarus 1<\/em> in an interview broadcast yesterday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year was “very productive” for the defense sector with weapons manufacturing and exports hitting record highs, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pantus described the Belarusian-made Buk-MB2 medium-range surface-to-air missile system as a highlight of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system, which has been taken into service, is designed to shoot down tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, helicopters and other targets in the environment of \u201cintense electronic countermeasures\u201d and is capable of destroying surface and ground targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official also praised the launch of a joint project with Russia to design and build the Asviej twin-engine light multipurpose aircraft as well as the development of the Sapphire grenade launcher, which has been supplied to the army since December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian defense companies have been sanctioned for supplying military goods to Russia to support its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pantus is targeted by individual sanctions imposed by Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK, Ukraine and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several Belarusian state-owned companies are involved in the mass production of ammunition for the Russian army, the BelPol association of former security officers said<\/a> in an investigation on YouTube yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plants involved in the production of 122 mm and 152 mm munitions are the \u017dhodzina-based Bie\u0142AZ heavy-duty dump truck factory (Bie\u0142aruski A\u016dtamabilny Zavod) and BAZcjub steel tube plant, the \u017d\u0142obin-based Belarusian Steel Works (Bie\u0142aruski Mieta\u0142urhi\u010dny Zavod), the Barysa\u016d-based automobile and tractor equipment plant (Barysa\u016dski Zavod A\u016dtatraktarnaha Elektraabstalava\u0144nia), the Or\u0161a-based Lehma\u0161 plant manufacturing a range of steel and cast iron products and the Minsk-based High-Precision Electronic and Mechanical Equipment Plant (Zavod Dak\u0142adnaj Elektramiechaniki), which manufactures dual products and repairs armaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These companies operate under the authority of the Ministry of Economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
