{"id":1225,"date":"2023-08-29T14:02:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T11:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=1225"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"belarus-eu-traffic-to-plunge-if-lithuania-closes-more-border-crossings","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/1225\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus-EU traffic to plunge if Lithuania closes more border crossings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 29,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.<\/strong>&nbsp;Closure of two more border crossings at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border would reduce the daily traffic between Belarus and the European Union by 15.7-percent,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>&#8216;s analysis the official border statistics shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lithuania-bound traffic would plunge by 38 percent should Vilnius opt for closing down the Lavori\u0161k\u0117s-Kat\u0142o\u016dka and Raigardas-Pryva\u0142ka border checkpoints, leaving only Medininkai and \u0160al\u010dininkai to handle cross-border traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarus-EU traffic has already fallen by 4.7 percent after the closure of the \u0160umskas and Tvere\u010dius checkpoints on August 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvia operates two checkpoints at its shared border with Belarus in Paternieki (Hryharo\u016d\u0161\u010dyna on the Belarusian side) and Silene (Urbany). Each of them can process 300 cars and 200 trucks per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brest-Terespol border crossing at the Belarusian-Polish border can process up to 1,700 cars, while the Kaz\u0142ovi\u010dy-Kukuryki checkpoint can handle up to 1,200 trucks daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past two years, the total daily capacity of Belarusian border crossings fell by 3,000 cars and 1,080 trucks after Poland had closed several border crossings, citing human rights abuses and the persecution of Poles in Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 29,&nbsp;BPN.&nbsp;Closure of two more border crossings at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border would reduce the daily traffic between Belarus and the European Union by 15.7-percent,&nbsp;BPN&#8216;s analysis the official border statistics shows.
