January 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian foreign ministry has called a draft statement the European External Action Service (EEAS) is allegedly planning to make after this week’s election “gross interference in the electoral processes of a sovereign state.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The election in Belarus has just begun, but they have already condemned and not recognized everything,” said Anatol H\u0142az, a spokesman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He quoted the draft document saying that restrictions on the access of independent media to Belarus have seriously undermined the legitimacy of the electoral process, so the necessary conditions for a democratic election have not been met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foreign ministry spokesman dismissed these allegations as a false claim, noting that about 330 foreign journalists, including reporters for independent outlets, have been accredited to cover the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The statement also contains insinuations regarding the invitation of the OSCE ODIHR to observe the election. Just in case, we remind you that a corresponding invitation was sent to the office, as confirmed by the ODIHR on January 17. They still have the opportunity to come, but this is not of fundamental importance since more than 450 international observers from 49 countries have been accredited to observe the election. Delegations from leading international organizations will be present, including the CIS IPA, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the SCO and the CICA,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H\u0142az said that if the EEAS makes this statement, it would demonstrate the European Union’s deliberate interference in the internal affairs of other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This attempt to cover up and legitimize “criminal actions against the Republic of Belarus” is unacceptable and would receive an adequate response, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers scheduled the seventh presidential election for January 21\u201326, with the main voting day on Sunday. Several Western countries and institutions have already said that they are not planning to recognize its results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
