January 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s special envoy for Africa, Viktar \u0160ejman, has told the Belarusian ruler that African partners want to create agricultural holding companies with Belarusian counterparts. There are proposals to open enterprises for the production and processing of poultry, beef and dairy products, \u0160ejman said, according to \u0141uka\u0161enka’s press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officials also discussed a demand for Belarusian mechanical engineering and food products, assisting the construction of roads, railways and power plants, and training specialists to operate, maintain and repair Belarusian equipment. \u0141uka\u0161enka instructed \u0160ejman to intensify their work by creating joint ventures and concluding long-term contracts with African countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two also discussed creating new industries in Belarus, including in the “promising” field of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, \u0160ejman met with senior police officials at the Brest Regional Department of Internal Affairs. According to the police press office, he spoke about “the difficulties that the current president had to face over the past few decades to raise the country from the state of decline it found itself in in the early 1990s.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0160ejman called modern Belarus a country with developed industry, economy, agriculture, healthcare and mechanical engineering. \u0141uka\u0161enka’s personal qualities and competent management decisions played a key role in this success, \u0160ejman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official is suspected of running a death squad that killed regime opponents in the late 1990s and early 2000s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June, then-President Joe Biden extended the national emergency on Belarus for another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President George W. Bush declared the emergency after the conviction of Alaksandar Kazulin, who ran for president in 2006. Belarus sentenced him to 5.5 years in prison and released in August 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2006, Washington imposed sanctions on \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials Natalla Piatkievi\u010d, Viktar Ha\u0142avana\u016d, Alaksandar Zimo\u016dski and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
