August 29, BPN<\/em>.<\/strong> Russia has withdrawn its ground troops from Belarus to reinforce its offensive in near Kupyansk and Liman, Ukraine’s Joint Forces Commander Serhiy Nayev has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian army and border troops are ready to conduct only deterrent and defensive operations on their own territory, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Kremlin will look for “new pretexts to resume active operations from the northern direction,” as Russia still has not achieved its strategic goals, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Telegram channel cited the official as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia may “legitimize the military build-up” in Belarus during the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) Combat Brotherhood drills scheduled for September 1-6, Nayev noted. He also warned of possible provocations, sabotage and incursions by reconnaissance forces from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
