January 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0The Committee for State Security (KGB) added 17 people to the list of persons \u201cinvolved in terrorist activities\u201d yesterday, its Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them is prominent trade unionist Volha Brycikava, serving a five-year prison term on charges widely seen as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brycikava, the leader of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union\u2019s cell at the Naftan oil refinery in Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region, was convicted of inciting hatred in connection with politically-sensitive social media posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activist was fired from Naftan, where she had worked for 16 years, for her political views. After the disputed 2020 presidential election, she was one of the protest movement leaders at Naftan, voicing the workers\u2019 demands to the authorities and the company\u2019s management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other blacklisted persons are U\u0142adzimir Ramanienka, Maksim Sandraku\u0142a, Vitold \u0160a\u0142kievi\u010d, Leanid Cierabiej, Natalla Antonava, D\u017amitryj Ho\u0142ub, D\u017amitryj Ko\u0142aba\u016d, Maksim \u010cacho\u016dski, Vital Paciechin, Siarhiej Cichana\u016d, Viktoryja Damastoj, Ta\u0107ciana \u015aciopa, Aleh Piatro\u016dski, Maksim My\u015bliviec, Arciom Licievi\u010d and Andrej Sitnika\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups consider all of them, except for Cierabiej, political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cierabiej, \u0160a\u0142kievi\u010d, Antonava, Ko\u0142aba\u016d, Ho\u0142ub and the mother of three Damastoj are accused of inciting hatred; Sandraku\u0142, of rioting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The others are serving sentences on charges that authorities routinely use to persecute regime critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, 1,228 people, including at least 540 Belarusian nationals, are on the KGB terrorist register. Prisoners on the list are prohibited from receiving money transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
