{"id":122953,"date":"2025-01-23T13:45:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T10:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/122953\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"supreme-court-to-open-trial-of-dead-nazi-criminal-on-february-6","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/122953\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court to open trial of dead Nazi criminal on February 6"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>January 23, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>On February 6, the Supreme Court will open the proceedings in a case against Siamion Sierafimovi\u010d, who died in 1997, on charges of involvement in genocide against Belarusian people during WW2, its press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case files comprise 30 volumes, with 54 witnesses announced by prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied forwarded the case against Sierafimovi\u010d to the Supreme Court on December 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian authorities charged the dead man with the murder of at least 4,144 people, including 622 children. Sierafimovi\u010d, who headed an auxiliary police unit during the war, reportedly gave his subordinates orders to torture people, shoot, hang and burn them alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case is another in a series of trials targeting dead perpetrators of war crimes against Belarusians, following the conviction of Vladimir Katriuk and proceedings against Konstantin Smowski last year. Both were accused of involvement in Chaty\u0144 massacre in 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government started promoting the concept of genocide against Belarusians about four years ago, while \u0160vied personally contributed content for a&nbsp;textbook on genocide for five-graders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed laws providing for criminal prosecution of the dead and criminalizing the denial of the genocide.
