He does not need excessive numbers of Wagner mercenaries for his plans to build a contract army, they noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On August 25, the Belarusian ruler told the state-run media that up to 10,000 Russian mercenaries could&nbsp;arrive in Belarus if necessary. The core of Wagner Group remains in Belarus, he said. &#8220;They will stay and work with us as long as we and this unit need,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On August 23, a business jet with three crew members and seven passengers crashed in Russia&#8217;s Tver province. One of those killed in the crash was Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, according to reports. The aircraft might have been downed by an air defense system or blown up by a bomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prigozhin and his Wagner army entered Belarusian politics two months ago. In late June, \u0141uka\u0161enka mediated an end to their march on Moscow after the mercenary leader threw down the gauntlet to Russia&#8217;s military brass. The mutineers were allowed to move to Belarus, and \u0141uka\u0161enka announced security guarantees for Prigozhin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The oligarch later traveled to Russia on multiple occasions and continued to do business there.
