January 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has signed an edict expanding the powers of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff to bring their activities in line with Belarus’ military doctrine, the Belarusian ruler’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said that “the defense ministry’s functions have been supplemented by provisions on implementing patriotic education events in the Armed Forces and covering the Armed Forces’ activities in the media.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that “the functions of the General Staff have been supplemented by a provision on coordinating the activities of the state military sector’s armed component in ensuring military security and protection.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin presented a Defense Vision for 2026\u20132030 to bolster Belarus’ defense capabilities, based on analyses of past events, including the 2020 unrest and Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine. Despite supporting Russian aggression in Ukraine, Belarus claims to be defending against hostile intentions from NATO countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
