January 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus’ political prisoners include 36 foreigners, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said that the most common accusations were covert operations and espionage. At least 23 aliens have been sentenced on these charges since 2020, including Dmitriy Shletgauer, a Russian national who died at Mahilo\u016d’s penal colony on October 11, 2024. He was sentenced to 12 years for “espionage” and “supporting extremist activity.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 19 foreigners were sentenced for participating in protest rallies in 2020. Thirty-five more were sentenced on defamation charges, such as insulting the head of state, incitement to hatred or libel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven foreigners were convicted of terrorism, including Russian nationals Aleksey Kulikov and Andrey Podnebenny. There were also Ukrainians Mykola Shve\u0107, Serhii and Pavlo Kabarchuk, and Ivan Lykholat. German national Rico Krieger was released in a major prisoner swap with the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Viasna, Belarusian-American lawjer Juryj Ziankovi\u010d has been held at the KGB’s detention facility in Minsk since the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Belarus has released US national Anastasia Nuhfer. The details of her case are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
