January 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Interpol has issued a red notice for the arrest of two suspects in the 2021 forced landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk, RMF24<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2022, the International Civil Aviation Organization concluded <\/a>that \u201cthe bomb threat against Ryanair Flight FR4978 was deliberately false and endangered its safety.\u201d It stressed that the threat was \u201ccommunicated to the flight crew upon the instructions of senior government officials of Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was operated by Buzz, a Polish subsidiary of the Irish airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the suspects are not in Poland, the prosecutors have been unable to hand them charges and asked Interpol to issue the red notice in all member states. A similar request is being considered for a third suspect in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office said the progress of the case was “of great interest to many international organizations,” with evidence being submitted to the European Commission and the European External Action Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last September, a Warsaw court sentenced Bie\u0142aeranavihacyja air navigation service director Leanid \u010curo, shift commander Ja\u016dhien Cyhano\u016d and an unnamed KGB officer to prison without the defendants being present. The Polish prosecutors accused them of a terrorist act against the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane’s landing led to the arrest of a Belarusian opposition journalist and his girlfriend who were on board, as well as sanctions against the Belarusian aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
