January 29, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Vilnius branded 598 Belarusians as threats to Lithuania’s national security last year, Delfi<\/em> reports, citing the interior ministry’s migration department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This number is significantly higher than those of Russians as only 125 of them received such status in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 179 out of 598 Belarusians were refused Lithuanian temporary residence permits, while 232 were denied permit extensions.\u00a0Vilnius also revoked 175 residence permits, denied permanent residence to three Belarusians and deprived nine of this document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian MPs introduced national sanctions for citizens of Russia and Belarus in 2023. Vilnius suspended the acceptance of applications for Schengen and national visas from Russians and Belarusians, subjecting them to additional checks at the borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few weeks ago, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested extending restrictions against Belarusians and Russians until May 2026, citing Russia\u2019s ongoing war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
