February 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented on February 6 as at least 50 people asked the BySol Solidarity Fund for assistance to flee Belarus after the data breach that affected the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun chatbot, its head Andrej Stry\u017eak said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ta\u0107ciana Kurhan, Anatol Rudko\u016dski, D\u017amitryj Stahurski, Joel Juro\u016dski and U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Lipart were tried for allegedly sharing opposition content, regional branches of the Viasna Human Rights Center and the Pravo Imeyut<\/em> Telegram channel reported. The sentences remain unknown. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in \u017d\u0142obin, Homiel region, sentenced student Kanstancin Cichamira\u016d to one year of restricted freedom in home confinement on charges of abusing state symbols, Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleh Samarodski went on trial in Minsk yesterday on charges of inciting hatred, association with an extremist group and calling for sanctions, Na\u0161a Niva <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juryj Zalatuchin, accused of high treason, is being tried behind closed doors in Homiel, Viasna said. Rights defenders do not know any further details of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politician Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski has been held incommunicado for 700 days, his exiled wife and politician \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palina \u0160arenda-Panasiuk, a former political prisoner evacuated from Belarus, told journalists in Vilnius about dreadful conditions at Penal Colony No. 24 in the Homiel region\u2019s Re\u010dyca district, where she served her sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, rights groups designated 16 people as former political prisoners. They were imprisoned for exercising freedom of expression and freedom of assembly and have been released without rehabilitation or compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of February 7, human rights defenders identified at least 1,230 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
