February 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian border guardshave found the body of an “Arab-looking\u201d man without documents at the border with Latvia yesterday, the State Border Committee (SBC) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian investigators said the man might have died of hypothermia. An investigative task force worked at the scene while Latvian soldiers filmed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a result of the European Union’s migration policy, 26 bodies of refugees have been found at the Belarusian-Latvian section” since 2021, the SBC said. On December 19, Mika\u0142aj Barejka, a senior SBC officer, reported that 72 migrants had died at the Belarusian-European border since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities regularly blame Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian officers for the suffering endured by third-country nationals seeking to cross the border into EU from Belarus and ask for asylum there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border has been ongoing since spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent people from Africa and Asia from traveling through Belarus to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
