February 12, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Russia plans to increase its army by 150,000 people this year using draft and North Koreans, who are likely to train in Belarus, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has told The Guardian<\/em>, citing intelligence data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military training may be a preparation for an invasion of Poland or Lithuania, as was the case with a drill that preceded the launch of Russia\u2019s full-scale war on Ukraine in early 2022, he noted. At that time, the Kremlin did not withdraw its troops from Belarus and used the contingent to attack Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities in Minsk kept claiming peaceful intentions and denied the Belarusian army\u2019s involvement in combat operations but allowed Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplied arms to the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fall, Minsk and Moscow plan a joint Zapad-2025 drill in Belarus that is expected to involve more than 13,000 troops. This major exercise will be linked to the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) drill in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Belarusian defense ministry said it notified all participating states of the Vienna Document of the Zapad-2025 drill, describing it as a highlight of the year designed to boost the Union State\u2019s defense system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
