February 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Pavie\u0142 Marozik of the National Academy of Sciences\u2019 Genetics and Cytology Institute says that more than 27,000 genetic passports have been issued in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a press conference in Minsk today, Marozik called these passports \u201ca necessary component of so-called personalized medicine, which is based on the individual characteristics of each patient.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that in recent years, the institute and healthcare institutions have developed methods for identifying genetic predisposition to more than 20 human diseases and conducted more than 400,000 genetic tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At our institute, an innovative structure, the Republican Center for Genomic Biotechnology, has been created. In this center, we implement all the developments obtained from the results of scientific research. These studies are conducted on the Belarusian population, and accordingly, they are relevant specifically for our population,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is no secret that some reagent manufacturers have left our market, but we have reoriented,” Marozik added. According to him, domestic specialists are now independently “developing targeted panels and ordering reagents, including from a Belarusian manufacturer.” This “has significantly reduced the cost of such research, allowed the development of new panels, and expanded the list of pathologies.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
