August 2, BPN.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian authorities have opened a case against the daughter of an exiled independent journalist on suspicion of disturbing public order, the Viasna human rights center reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u015aviat\u0142ana \u0141upa\u010d was arrested in May and sentenced to 10 days in jail for spreading “extremist content.” She was later fined 925 rubels (over $360) and sent to a detention facility in Viciebsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0179micier \u0141upa\u010d fled Belarus in July 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, the UN Human Rights Committee ruled that the authorities violated his and several other journalists’ right to collect and disseminate information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
