February 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus remains on the international agenda, said Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, the Belarusian opposition\u2019s representative for security, after the Munich Security Conference held on February 14-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy including the Belarusian issue in the agenda of discussion with the US president and in the European security context, Ukraine, as represented by its President [Volodymyr] Zelensky, has proved being a natural ally of Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces. I see this as one of the Munich Security Conference\u2019s achievements,\u201d Kaban\u010duk said, as quoted by the opposition United Transitional Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine and Belarus have one source of security problems\u2014Russia, which denies their identity and directly threatens their independence, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Ukraine have a long shared border, and \u201ca potential threat from the north raises understandable concerns\u201d in Kyiv, Kaban\u010duk said. \u201cThe Belarusian pro-democracy forces understand that and are ready to sync our strategies on security and eliminating the threat to Ukraine and Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja met with Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump\u2019s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, on the sidelines of the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI explained to the general that a predictable Belarus without a Russian military presence is necessary for sustainable peace. We agreed to continue communication,\u201d Cichano\u016dskaja said after the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian politician also held talks with members of US Congress and Ben Hodges a former commanding general of US Army Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
