{"id":1270,"date":"2023-08-02T13:39:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T10:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=1270"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"about-150-people-persecuted-on-political-grounds-in-july-rights-group","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/1270\/","title":{"rendered":"About 150 people persecuted on political grounds in July \u2013 rights group"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 2,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Belarusian authorities persecuted at least 150 people on political grounds in July, the Viasna Human Rights Center says in its recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 52 people, including 15 women, were convicted of crimes, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, Belarusian courts sentenced 28 persons to a total of over 94 years in prison; 24 people were given a total of 58.5 years of home confinement and six persons were fined a total of 206,090 (over $67,850) rubels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human rights defenders recorded continuing criminal persecution in a campaign of reprisals for the 2020 protests against election fraud, with a total of 78 persons tried on this charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 11 people were charged for donating money to opposition initiatives that Belarusian authorities deem extremist or terrorist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viasna recorded at least four cases of criminal persecution of jailed activists for allegedly disobeying prison authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian judges consider politically-motivated cases promptly, often in a single court session, the report stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of August 2, human rights defenders identified at least 1,483 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
