{"id":127026,"date":"2025-02-19T19:57:52","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T16:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/127026\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"lithuania-seizes-e5-6-million-worth-of-belarusian-cigarettes","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/127026\/","title":{"rendered":"Lithuania seizes \u20ac5.6 million worth of Belarusian cigarettes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>February 19, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuanian customs officers on January 13 seized 2,520 boxes of smuggled Belarusian cigarettes transported in two trucks in the eastern town of Vievis 40 kilometers off Vilnius, the country\u2019s Customs Criminal Service (CCS) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the largest seizure since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The officers spotted two trucks reportedly transporting painting tools, according to the press release. Officers found that the painting tools were just a disguise, and the semi-trailers were carrying Belarusian cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vehicles were sent to the Medininkai checkpoint for a detailed examination. In all, officers found 1.26 million packs of NZ Gold, Queen Menthol and Queen Superslim worth \u20ac5.64 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials launched a pre-trial investigation into smuggling. The drivers\u2014a Lithuanian and a Belarusian\u2014may face up to eight years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A court ruled to arrest the Belarusian for two months and the Lithuanian for one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCS officers suspect that the cigarettes could have been imported from Latvia. After the smuggling of cigarettes from Russia and Belarus was practically suppressed, smugglers have changed their tactics, the release said.
