February 19, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Most Belarusian city dwellers are in favor of expanding the use of Belarusian, according to a poll by Filip Bikana\u016d and Kanstancin Nie\u015bciarovi\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers polled 800 people online for the survey Belarusian Identity in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A suggestion to have more Russian in video games received 19-percent support; in movies and TV series, 15-percent support; in state agencies, bureaucracy and the army, 12 percent each; in outdoor advertising and higher education, 11 percent each; in preschool and secondary education, the media, urban design, showbiz, politics and government, 10 percent each; and in book publishing, 9 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More respondents supported expanding the use of the Belarusian language, with preschool education at 33-percent support; secondary education and outdoor advertising, at 32 percent each; the media, urban design, politics and government, at 29 percent each; showbiz, at 27 percent; state agencies, bureaucracy, movies, TV series and book publishing, at 26 percent; higher education, at 25 percent; army and video games, at 20 percent each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 36 and 54 percent\u2014depending on the area\u2014said the language environment was balanced. Video games were perceived as least balanced and urban design as most balanced. The share of respondents without an answer varied between 8 and 25 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
