The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 182 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service did not record any illegal border crossings but&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that their Latvian colleagues thwarted 28 attempts on August 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1686628342328360960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that 154 foreigners, including nationals of Armenia, Afghanistan, Egypt, India, Iran, Morocco and Tajikistan, tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 24,456 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 17,712 attempts via Poland, 5,267 via Latvia and 1,477 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 5,054 times in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPN&#8217;s analysis of daily stats indicated growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 4,719 in May and 3,701 in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but have risen more recently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 2, BPN.
