February 22, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka is heading an organizing committee for the preparation of the seventh All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (UNS), says its presidium’s resolution No 2, published on the National Legal Internet Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee includes 35 members, among them parliamentary speakers, ministers, heads of regional executive committees, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s spokeswoman Natalla Ejsmant and Alaksandar \u0141ukjana\u016d of the official youth union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNS draft agenda was approved yet its contents were not disclosed to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed as a state body comprised of \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s supporters, the UNS is expected to convene in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka plans to deliver his address to the Belarusian people and the parliament and have the assembly confirm his appointments of judges, while the prime minister will present his report on social and economic programs for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formed by \u0141uka\u0161enka in 1996, the UNS was given constitutional status after the controversial February 2022 referendum. \u0141uka\u0161enka was elected its chairman in an uncontested vote last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNS has a maximum of 1,200 members with a five-year mandate who must convene at least once a year to set out the strategic priorities for society and the government. The UNS powers include proposing legislation and constitutional amendments, approving foreign and domestic policies and impeaching the president. Earlier, \u0141uka\u0161enka said the UNS comprised his allies only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNS should play its role without interfering in other state agencies\u2019 activities, \u0141uka\u0161enka said earlier this month, warning against more \u201cmeetings, correspondence and formalism\u201d as well as \u201cpitting one government body against another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few months ago, he also played down the role of the revamped UNS, stressing that it should not dominate other branches of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
