February 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The National Bank of Belarus has announced a rise in the estimated values of standard risk (EVSR) next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An excess of interest rates on new deposits and loans over the EVSR is indicative of higher risk, the central bank said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Bank calculates the EVSRs at least once in three months based on average interest rates established by seven major banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator raised the EVSR for companies’ new loans in Belarusian rubels by 0.37 percentage points to 12.87 percent, while the rate for individuals rose by 0.47 percentage points to 18.2 percent. The current EVSRs have been in force since August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EVSRs were introduced in 2019 as a set of measures of a macroprudential nature to limit systemic risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anatol Charyton\u010dyk of the BEROC think tank had predicted the rate hike earlier this month, noting that the central bank may respond to a significant consumer lending expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move will slow down lending and pay growth, reducing high consumer activity, the researcher said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average interest rate on bank loans rose to 10.36 percent last month, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of the National Bank’s data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
