February 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Russia’s Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, is scheduled to hear a bill on the ratification of a treaty with Belarus on security guarantees at a plenary session on February 26, TASS <\/em>reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federation Council’s committee on defense and security recommended approving the bill, approved by Russian MPs one week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the deal in early December 2024. It provides for defending the Union State territory and border with \u201call available forces and means,\u201d including the use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons stationed in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The treaty will enter into force after being ratified by both parties. Minsk has not yet announced the start of the ratification process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials openly support the Russian war against Ukraine. Minsk claims peaceful intentions and denies the Belarusian army\u2019s involvement in combat operations but allowed Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplied arms to the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year,  \u0141uka\u0161enka told journalists he did not regret allowing Russian troops to march through Belarus into Ukraine in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
